Hasina jailed 21 years in three plot scam cases

A Dhaka court has sentenced former fascist Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to a total of 21 years in prison in three separate cases over allegations of misusing power to obtain 30 kathas of government land in the Purbachal New Town Project.
The judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun delivered the verdict at 11:30am.
He stated that as the offenses were proven in all three cases, she was sentenced to seven years in each case, totaling 21 years with the sentences to be served consecutively.
The court also sentenced Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy to five years' imprisonment and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul to the same term.
Earlier, on 23 November, after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, Judge Mamun had scheduled 27 November for the verdict in these cases.
Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul have been absconding since the beginning of the proceedings in the three cases.
Mohammad Khurshid Alam, a former member of RAJUK and the only accused arrested in the cases, was present in the courtroom during the verdict. Lawyers representing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) were also in attendance.
According to the case documents, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md Salahuddin filed the case on January 14, 2025, against eight accused, including Sheikh Hasina, over the alleged irregular allocation of a 10-katha plot in Purbachal.
A charge-sheet in this case later named 12 accused.
On January 12, 2025, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya filed the case against 16 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul. Keya later filed the charge sheet in the case against 18 accused.
The court on July 31, 2025, framed charges in these three cases and issued arrest warrants for the accused. A total of 29 witnesses testified in the case.
