  1. Trump and Starmer head inside Chequers for their meetingpublished at 16:02

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Lady Starmer and US President Donald Trump have now entered Chequers.

It's an Elizabethan house gifted to British prime ministers to welcome them, their teams, and is being used to welcome Trump for talks today.

We'll be seeing Trump and Starmer later today for a news conference.

  2. The very act of transporting the president is a projection of powerpublished at 16:00

    Political editor, reporting from Chequers

I’ve just counted them through the gate here at Chequers — a 15-car motorcade for the president, driving him around 100 metres from his helicopter Marine One to the front door of the building.

The very act of transporting the President is a projection of power — as well as security.

As the US President's approaches the entryway, the bagpipers start up.

Donald Trump then exits the car and is greeted in the drive by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his wife Victoria.

Trump shakes both their hands and has a brief chat with them.

The journey that President Trump is getting into the Beast to do is maybe a maximum of 200 metres, and nevertheless there is a convoy of cars ready to take him.

The ceremonial welcome awaits the president as he arrives at the front entrance of Chequers.

I cannot emphasise enough quite how short the journey that is about to take place in the car is.

  5. Trump steps off Marine One for short ride up to Chequerspublished at 15:53

US President Donald Trump has stepped off the helicopter after a short journey from Windsor Castle to the Chequers residence.

As President Trump made his farewells to King Charles at Windsor Castle, there will be a feeling that it’s been a job well done by the royals, who seem to have successfully wowed and wooed their US visitors.

The baton has been handed over to the political part of the visit, but the grandeur of Wednesday’s state banquet and a day of royal ceremonies seems to have delighted the US president, who called it one of the “highest honours” of his life.

The government will hope that all the flattery and spectacle will have made the president more receptive to tougher messages, such as on Ukraine and trade tariffs.

The president will have to leave the warm glow that he’s enjoyed inside the castle walls. Outside there have been protests against his visit.

But it’s been a reminder of how the royals can put on a show like few others.

  8. Trump is in the air and en route to Chequerspublished at 15:41
    Breaking

Our cameras outside Windsor Castle have just captured the US president's air convoy flying northwards towards Chequers.

It's about a 15 minute journey by air - he'll be travelling in Marine One:

Annotated image of the US President's Marine One helicopter, manufactured by Sikorsky. The helicopter (side-on facing right) is painted green and white with the presidential livery and United States of America written on the side. It measures 17 meters (56 feet) in length. The helicopter is equipped with advanced security features including missile defence systems, radar jamming technology, and electronics hardened against electromagnetic pulses from nuclear blasts. It includes enhanced satellite communication systems and typically flies in formation with identical decoy helicopters to obscure the President's exact location. Used when motorcade travel is impractical.

In the last few minutes, a final group picture of Queen Camilla, King Charles, US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump was released.

Unlike yesterday, neither the Queen nor the first lady are wearing their exuberant hats.

Charles is wearing a navy blue striped suit, with a blue tie with white details. Trump is wearing a navy blue suit with a red tie and his wife Melania is wearing a fitted skirt suit that appears to be made of light brown leather.

Queen Camilla is wearing a white dress with a pearl necklace.

Trump has just taken off in Marine One and is heading for Chequers.

The prime minister's residence is often used to host visiting official guests - including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2023 - as well as cabinet meetings.

Trump has been there before, in 2018 when he paid a working visit to the UK and met the then-prime minister Theresa May.

Here's what the huge manor house looks like:

  12. Trump departs Windsor as he heads to Chequerspublished at 15:27

Trump's presidential car - the so-called "Beast" - draws up to the entrance. The car drives away with Trump on board.

The US president is now bound for Chequers to meet Sir Keir Starmer.

We understand he will fly to the prime minister's country residence on his helicopter, Marine One (weather-allowing).

Later, the Queen will show the First Lady the Queen Mary's Dolls' House in Windsor Castle.

It's the largest and most famous dolls house in the world with a fully stocked wine cellar, a garden and even running water and working lifts.

There's also a library with original works by famous writers from the day.

The Dolls House was built between 1921 and 1924 for Queen Mary and designed by the British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.

It's normally open to the public and is one of the castle highlights.

Chris Ruddy, chief executive of conservative media outlet Newsmax Media and a long-time friend of Donald Trump, was among those lucky enough to attend last night's state banquet.

"The president and Melania [the first lady] were just absolutely gleaming and they don’t gleam often – they’re not impressed that much by many things," Ruddy told BBC Radio 4's Today programme a little earlier.

He says that Trump spent much of the evening "deep in discussion" with the Princess of Wales and Ruddy could tell from his body language that he was "fascinated" and "really engaged".

Speaking about King Charles, Ruddy says Trump has "developed a rapport" that has existed for several years and that the US president "sees the British brand, the brand of the royal family, as just so powerful".

Harnessing the superpowers of the most resilient life form on Earth Share Save Jasmin Fox-Skelly Steve Gschmeissner/ Science Photo Library (Credit: Steve Gschmeissner/ Science Photo Library) Bake them, freeze them, fire them from a gun, or blast them into space: tardigrades can survive almost anything. Some experts even think this eight-legged micro-animal could outlive every other species on Earth – including humans – and survive right up until the Sun dies. If you went into outer space without protection, you'd die. Yet a tiny animal no larger than 1mm long – about the size of a pinhead –  has survived this  and more. Under the microscope, tardigrades, also known as water bears or moss piglets, are fearsome looking creatures. Their podgy misshapen faces, ferocious claws and dagger-like teeth make them look more like a monster from Doctor Who than an animal. Now scientists are trying to harness their superpowers for our own use – from protecting cancer patients from ha...

The nation - which has faced global criticism for its continued reliance on fossil fuels - had previously pledged to reduce greenhouse gases by 43% by 2030. "This is a responsible target supported by science and a practical plan to get there, built on proven technology," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said when unveiling the new target on Thursday.
